On Thursday 28th September 2017 in Lleida, Spain the Agrimax project will host a one-day business model innovation workshop to create value from wastes and by-products from the agricultural and food-processing sectors.

By bringing together interested stakeholders, we will use the business model canvas to map existing and innovative ways to create, deliver and capture value for the new supply chains being developed by the Agrimax project (image below: Flickr – no changes made).

In Europe alone, around 90 million tonnes of food and 700 million tonnes of crop are wasted every year. Agrimax is an EU-funded project that is developing and demonstrating the production of multiple, high-value products from crop and food-processing waste. The project will develop economically competitive routes to the commercialisation of these products, using flexible, and possibly cooperatively run, processing facilities which will maximise the EU’s sustainability, while providing new bio-based compounds for the chemicals, food-packaging and farming sectors.

Who should take part?

All future Agrimax value chain partners, from farmers and food manufacturers (olive, tomato, potato and cereal processors) to businesses interested in operating a biorefinery, to potential end-users of Agrimax products (e.g. packaging, food and agricultural materials sectors).

What to expect?

You will find out more about the Agrimax project, its value chains and learn how wastes and by-products can add value to your business. You will also have the opportunity to network with like-minded people. After the workshop you will have the opportunity to visit the Agricultural Fair St.Michael in Lleida.

Not an expert in business models? Do not worry. The Agrimax team will guide you through the business model innovation process step-by-step. There is no need to share financial details of your business although some insight into finance and funding mechanisms would be greatly appreciated. During the workshop we will map business models that you are currently using, with the help of the business model canvas. We will then introduce the new Agrimax value chains. Building on your existing business models, we will discuss how we can change your business model canvases to become part of the Agrimax value chain. Finally, we will look at important external factors such as economic conditions and regulation, investigating drivers and barriers for the Agrimax value chain.

After the workshop 4Innovation will analyse the outcomes in a report. The results will complement a review of best practice for innovative circular business models and a context analysis to ensure the new business models will be successful.
